Thanks for all the info. I did check IBM's Knowledge Base & it has the
mfrtypmdl to use. What I didn't know is if Jet Direct is suitable for line printers (just never tried one). The HP website doesn't really say "what" you connect so I was left wondering
what limitations might exist.

I do not see why not. If the cables fit why not.  You should still be able
to have the printer as a windows share, so it works like it does now.

It will be interesting(?) to figure out what WSCST to use.  You will have
to see it the printer is configed for an emulation mode:
