It appears that the IP address added to the device description is left intact when the device is varied off. The QDCRDEVD API will return that value in format DEVD0600. So even if you don't have audit journalling active you should be able to determine it.

Of course, this does depend on the application that opened the virtual device setting the IP address correctly but all the good emulators do.
