Replace the boxes? Let me guess, you'll get a new box, loaded with V5R4 or beyond. Then you'll want to save this and that on your old box, at some earlier version of OS, and restore these on the new box and be done with it? There are people who do upgrades this way but I still think it actually makes MORE work trying to find out what may go wrong and still having to fix what went wrong that you didn't catch. After all, it's not like your running your system at security level 10, all users use the same signon, and all applications, configuration, etc are all in 1 or 2 libraries. This is not a S/34, S/36, S/38 or AS/400. This is an iSeries. Much of the configuration is stored all over various areas, including IFS. Restoring the wrong directories in the IFS alone can get you into trouble (or not restoring any IFS data at all can also get you into trouble). Rob Berendt
