Check the drives on that 270 and read the migration planning.  As I
recall, you have to have a 17gb load source for V5R3 or V5R4.  I have a
270 on V5R2 but the load source is 8.5gb.  That's a show stopper.  Same
problem on my 720.  Swapping drives and doing a reload is not something
I relish.  Hopefully, I just get to replace the boxes before then.

That is the recommended upgrade.  Other's have bypassed that, but in my 
opinion, your risk of failure rises exponentially.
I would read the "Memo to Users" for V5R2, V5R3 and V5R4 before 
continuing.
