Michael: We get similar problems with Canon Imagerunners (multifunction printers/scanners/copiers) in a completely different configuration. We have iSeries Access emulation sessions connecting the AS/400 to them. Most of the time they hang in there. However, if an emulation session disconnects, for any reason, it will not reconnect if *any* of the paper trays is empty even if it is a tray that is *never* used except for copying. It appears to this non-expert that the paper-out signal generated by the hardware, intended for the expected management software (usually Windows-based), is being misinterpreted by the iSeries Access session as a device failure signal. After the tray is filled and emulation is restarted, the signal is apparently ignored. A real pain, among others caused by having too many layers of control in the printer output data stream. We will probably purchase basic laser printers, directly connected via ethernet to the AS/400, as the solution. Darrell Darrell A. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem. We have a couple of printers (savin copier/printers) that previously were set up as Remote Outqs. These have been converted to *lan printers. Now that they are *lan printers we are experiencing a fairly high rate of ended printers. This seems to coincide with receiving 'Paper Tray needs attention' message. However I have tested every scenario I can think of related to how/when the messages are answered and I cannot reproduce the problem. This happens once or twice a day usually. I'm finding it difficult to track because I don't know about the problem until its already occurred. Michael Smith
