Yes, Joe,
HMC is not required on a non-LPAR Machine.
There is even an alternative to HMC, if you run i5/OS on the first
partition and up to four additional LPARs with Linux on them,
you can use Virtual Partition Manager to setup and manage them.


Thanks, Philipp!  Although I don't even have time to get Linux running on a
development PC here, much less in an iSeries LPAR <grin>.
