I've seen that before. The fare to the 'burbs is 1.5x the normal fare. My guess is they do it because the taxi has no reasonable chance of picking up a fare in the 'burbs and will have to ride back to the city or an airport empty. But those fare amounts seem rather exorbitant. I can get to O'Hare from Aurora for around $40something which should make the return trip -- in a Chicago cab -- no more than $70 or so. I normally call American Taxi as they cover the burbs pretty well and the fee isn't so high. The cabs are the newest but I can't complain about the cost. Best deal was about 10 years ago. A former employer had a contract with a limo company: $17 each way from the company office in Lombard to O'Hare. John A. Jones, CISSP Americas Information Security Officer Jones Lang LaSalle, Inc. My limo ride of about 40 miles to the airport was about $70, not too unreasonable. My cab ride home was $115! Turns out I should have taken a suburban cab. Actually I should've taken a limo home but I had packed the phone and confirmation number for the limo company in my suitcase. And because our flight was diverted to Indianapolis due to tornados in Chicago at our ETA, among other things, I thought I'll just hop in a cab... -----Original Message----- From: midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Pete Helgren Sent: Monday, October 30, 2006 6:36 PM To: Midrange Systems Technical Discussion Subject: Re: Conference locations in the East Philly or Newark was my guess. Distance from nearest airport can be an issue, not necessarily a deal breaker unless parking is $$$. I remember flying into SFO and then driving to the Marriott in downtown SF and paying $25/day to store my $45.00/day car. I was an amateur traveler then. A million miles later I have gotten a *bit* smarter.
