Since the disk is controlled by OS/400, doesn't this option ultimately mean that the disk is unavailable when you are doing things like applying PTF's or OS/400 upgrades?
If the iSeries is being IPL'ed, the disk subsystem is also unavailable... You need to take this into consideration when using it as a SAN. Nowadays though, the iSeries doesn't need to be IPL'ed very often. Some people (like myself) still do it monthly out of habit, but if you really studied this I bet you could get by with an IPL every 4-6 months quite easily.
