I can agree that MQSeries probably could be rewritten to handle the switch from
Daylight Savings time to Standard Time... but, Job Accounting is an integrated
part of the OS ... I believe that IBM has to address this "time sensitive"
issue within the OS. Some people use job accounting data to charge back system
resources to customers. It is really confusing when you have a bunch of jobs
that show as ending before they started because the OS set the time back an
hour while they were running.

It shouldn't be that big of an issue to slowly adjust the system clock when it
needs to reset backwards. IBM already has the processes in place, they just
need to integrate them.

Shouldn't "time sensitive applications" be aware of DST themselves? Why
is an app issue left to the OS to handle?

Rob ... I agree that IBM has improved how the OS handles time changes
over the years... They use to do nothing, now they allow the system to
adjust the system clock automatically twice a year.

However, there is still a big problem with how it is handled when the
time change moves backward in time. IBM has not given us a process that
addresses issues involving "time sensitive applications" like MQSeries
and some system journaling processes. Once they combine "Time
Adjustment" and automatic time zone change, then we will have a truly
integrated and automated process for adjusting time on the iSeries...

No Jeff, while there may (or may not) be issues with MQ series, etc, I
simply think that many of these people are just not getting the fact
that there HAS been updates to the OS to handle the time change.

I sure hope they aren't expecting IBM to ptf it back to V2R3.

I don't understand. I didn't do squat last spring end the i5 just
handled
it because of the time zone I set in V5R4.

Other than MQ, are a number of you on older releases causing an issue?
