Historically, all mainframe applications (and the AS/400 was modeled after the System/38, which was modeled after a 360/370/390/System z [you see they are name crazed also!]) used local time. When Windoze '95 came out with automatic daylight savings time, this became the trendy thing to do. IBM has put a lot of effort into making sure that this was added in V5R3 that it didn't break your applications. I have a presentation that I do at COMMON and an article that appeared in COMMON Connect a few years ago. If anyone wants a copy, please send me PRIVATE e-mail, and I will send it today. I agree that IBM has improved how the OS handles time changes over the years... They use to do nothing, now they allow the system to adjust the system clock automatically twice a year. However, there is still a big problem with how it is handled when the time change moves backward in time. IBM has not given us a process that addresses issues involving "time sensitive applications" like MQSeries and some system journaling processes. Once they combine "Time Adjustment" and automatic time zone change, then we will have a truly integrated and automated process for adjusting time on the iSeries... No Jeff, while there may (or may not) be issues with MQ series, etc, I simply think that many of these people are just not getting the fact that there HAS been updates to the OS to handle the time change. I sure hope they aren't expecting IBM to ptf it back to V2R3. The Time Adjustment seems a good solution for my sites. Don't have any need to synch with other systems, and it's not an option to bring the machine down (it's taking and processing orders). However - I'm not planning to sign on at 1:59am to point & click a navigator function. Why can't Rochester figure it out their job scheduler works great to run stuff overnight. We need a #%*# command to call. So I will do what I've done every year - chgsysval qhour. jim franz -- This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
