Is this the first of many requests. That can make a big difference, because you start down a learning path for a particular toolset. Having said that, my own experience between several customers, with 2 different methods:

1. If truly going to be few requests, and no "tool" money - have used the easy400 cgidev2 tool - it's free, it works very well, if you can read rpgle then no problem. Lots of sample working code. Can get a running, working simple program quickly (like a day or less? starting from nothing). Newsgroup support and many out there have done this. Apache webserver (if not on) is not too hard to get going. This is an IBM open source. http://www-922.ibm.com/en (i hope this is current site). Also Brad Stone published a training book on using this tool.

1a. Some will suggest Net.Data - it's free - it's fast - it works - it's already on the system - and it's "old" - less documentation available - many have done it.

2. If you got funds for a tool (because in the long run, if you are going to write web code for many future projects, but can't stop & spend months learning new languages, and don't yet run Websphere Server - i've used Websmart from BCD (not a vendor, just a user). It's pretty easy for a RPG coder, but it generates the RPGLE code to use cgi, you work in a fairly simple "vb like" language. Have run an order entry site with maybe 40 screens (search, entry, print (to pdf) etc for 6 years and never a halt. Same setup of Apache. I had working program (simple) within a day starting from nothing.

The Zend product may be the answer, but here's a fast question for the
  list:

I've got a client who wants to be able to allow his customers to view
information about their invoices over the web. If the customer wants to
dispute one or more line items on the invoice, there should be a check box
next to each line item. When the customer finishes checking off the
disputed items and presses a submit button, my client's company will be
able to get a notification about this and pull up the account for review.

The back end is not a problem. What do you folks think might be a simple
was to facilitate the front end process?

  Thanks

    Thanks for the info.

I use Net.Data, it sounds like change is in the wind.

    Hello,

I met some guys from Zend technologies and asked them about iSeries and
    PHP.

As I promised, here is a summary of the topics that were discussed.

Why port php to the iSeries?
    ----------------------------
Because IBM has asked them to and provided the necessary incentives.
The PHP learning curve is not as steep as the Java learning curve, and
rpg programmers will find it much easier to adopt.
On the one hand, IBM was disappointed with the weak penetration of Java
to the iSeries world. On the other hand, IBM was looking for a
replacement for Net.Data. On the gripping hand, PHP has proven to be a
very successful environment for web applications development.

porting PHP as a native Apache module instead of running it as a CGI
    engine in PASE.
    ------------------------------------------
I did not receive a clear answer, I hope to get one soon.

Will there be a conversion program to port Net.Data to PHP?
    -----------------------------------------
Zend are planning to write a tool to help with this conversion, but they
are not sure if it will be released to the public or used only
internally in their professional services group.
