Talk to your tape unit vendor. For the iSeries to use the tape unit, it will have to emulate some standard IBM iSeries tape drive/library. The IBM and third-party (Cybernetics, eStorage, GST, ect) iSeries compatible tape devices/libraries are easily shared with Windows/Linux/ect. But you are probably out of luck if the device is from a vendor who asks what's an AS-400/iSeries/i5. It consists of 2 units, a cpu unit and a disk drive unit. I have found the install instructions from IBM to be less than adequate. I have most of it figured out I believe but will review before turning the power on. Where can I go to get detailed instructions as to how to hook up the cables and which ones do I use? The HMC was not ordered.. I believe I will need a small PC to act as the ops console for initial IPLing of the system. Is that still correct? I have been asked to look at the backup procedures of the system. Has anyne backed up the iSeries systems to a "collective" tape unit. We have a large tape unit for backing up Linix and Windows system. The operations stafgf would like to have the iSeries backed up to the same unit. Any suggestions would be appreciated Thanks in adnvance Dave Willenborg FNTS Omaha NE -- This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
