The last quote we received from SL at IBM was just under two grand....I
believe it was $1,870.00. We did add an additional drive late last year
(about a year old now) and some additional memory but it has gone months
with no reported problems.

We switched from IBM maintenance to a 3rd party outfit. I not know what it
is costing us, but I have a hard time believing even 1 grand a year, based
on the totals I see for Data Processing in the General Ledger reports I run.

Unfortunately no, this machine is not under hardware
maintenance.....although it could be added; I would hate to spend two
grand a year for a machine that is probably worth 1/4 of
that.....although on the other hand we really need to keep the machine in
service for a while.

My suspicion is that you have a hardware problem. Had the power
scheduler shut it down, you would have likely had QABNORMSW set to '0'.
Are you under hardware maintenance, or is that a silly question?

A few questions:
o After it shuts down, and presumably you restart it by pressing the
power button, what is the system value QABNORMSW?
o What release and PTF level?

One of my 9406-170 has been experiencing a problem lately with shutting
itself down. I have checked the power schedule and its ok since we
typically never shut it down.

About two months ago we moved the machine to a different location and
did a normal power down, no problems. It IPL's ok or seems to.

One thing I have noticed is that it only occurs after someone connects
to the machine using client access......when using Mocha or any other
client we have no problems.

Suggestions or insights on what may be causing this problem?
