No, you can do it in a Query/400 query.

You could however do it in a Query Manager query (STRQM).

Or use embedded SQL in an RPG or COBOL program.

Or use interactive SQL (STRSQL)

Or use iSeries Navigator's Run SQL Scripts function (or any other SQL
client).

I would like to know if it is possible to delete records from 
a file with
the command OPNQRYF only if the first char of the record is 
equal to 'D'. I
don't know the name of the field at that position when I use 
the command in
my CLP... Something like:

If (%subst(Record:1:1) = 'D')
    Delete Record

directly in a OPNQRYF command...
