Thank you for your answer. Instead of going through the pain (this
time...) I am removing file records from the work file for files that
have zero (0) members before I attempt to allocate them... For what I'm
doing, it won't be an issue.

You need to use the RCVMSG command. You'll have to receive the *ESCAPE
message and get its message key then receive the message prior to that
key.

Or you could cheat and receive and remove the escape message and then
just receive the last message.
