Wow, you must have some real anal-retentive auditors. Are they worried about a PTF causing the system to fail or are they worried about the system getting hacked by a rogue PTF? We typically load the PTFs on our test partition two days prior to applying it everywhere else. Before applying the PTFs on a system we do a full backup of the entire system. PTF failures have been pretty rare for us. Once we had a defective MF PTF that caused the IPL on the test partition to fail, but that was it. ----- Original Message ----- From: Ketzes, Larry To: Midrange Systems Technical Discussion Sent: Thursday, September 07, 2006 2:12 PM Subject: PTF's Installed on Production Servers I am getting pounded by auditors on an issue, and I would like to know what other admin's are doing about this. Our auditors are asking to see testing resulting from installing ptf's from IBM on our Production Servers. Although I do have a test partition, I do not install every ptf I need on that partition first. I do not have enough space on that partition for all testing of all applications just because I put on some ptf's! What are other folks doing? We do go through a change process procedure that includes management approving the install of the ptf's.
