Maybe we need a little more detail.

Who is checking who?  Is an action on the iSeries supposed to verify that 
the file exists on the Windows Server?  Sort of like using the IFS api's 
to check for the existence of a file in the 
/QNTC/YourWindowsServerHere/ShareNameHere/FileNameHere.ext system?  Or, is 
the Windows Server supposed to verify the existence of a file on the 
iSeries?

A fun exercise with DataLink fields perhaps?
