If our 200 (V3R2) is not in use (which is most of the time), we IPL it once a week, let it run for an hour or so, then shut it down, in order to keep it exercised. And this generally happens without anybody even noticing.

The same is true for our 40s (V4R2, one of our 2 development boxes) and our "fat" 170 (our V5R2 test box), except that they usually do get turned on before their weekly exercise cycle.

Our "slim" 170 (V4R4, our other development box) and our 510 (V4R5, our production box) run for months at a time without an IPL. The 170 runs for weeks at a time without even being brought down to restricted state; the 510 gets a full backup weekly, and so it hits restricted state weekly (but without a full cold IPL).
