When setting up LanConsole a couple of things happen #1 The device must predefined in SST/DST (this is by name). The only one predefined is QCONSOLE #2 The first time a predefined console attaches a super secret id/pwd is created and stored on the PC that only the system knows. If another device with the same name tries to attach, it can't. #3 Each DST/SST profile to be used with Lan Console needs to have the authority is use and/or take over the console. I always create a separate SST/DST user profile for each user that needs to use console support. That way you can disable a single user without affecting all the console users _____________________ Kirk Goins CCNA Systems Engineer, Manage Inc. A HMC is over kill for our single system (no LPARs). We are looking at the thin console, but this doesn't offer remote access. I would like a console with remote access for system maintenance. The LAN console sounds like the way to go, but security is an issue. What kind of password, user ids or security is there on a LAN console?
