I've got a few of ideas: Option 1, iSeries Access: After running the PC program to create the file, run a pre-defined batch file that uses the Data Upload feature to upload the file to the iSeries and then use the Remote Command feature to call the CL program. Pro: Pretty bullet-proof; Con: Need an iSeries Access license and also need to maintain a Data Upload configuration file on the user's PC Option 2, NetServer: Mount a drive on the user's PC to point to a directory on the iSeries. Then when they run the PC program they should create the file directly to the IFS directory in that mapped drive. On the iSeries the user could then take a menu option that will copy the data to DB2 using either CPYFRMSTMF or CPYFRMIMPF. Pro: No iSeries Access license needed and no configuration files or batch scripts; Con: NetServer isn't all that fast. Option 3, FTP: After running the PC program to create the file, run a pre-defined batch file that uses and FTP script to upload the data and run the CL program. Pro: FTP is very fast and no need for an iSeries Access license; Con: Need to maintain batch and FTP scripts on the PC. ----- Original Message ----- From: Booth Martin To: Midrange Systems Technical Discussion Sent: Wednesday, August 23, 2006 12:48 PM Subject: What is the best, most graceful way to import PC data and then runa CLP program? What is the best, most graceful way to import PC data and then run a CLP program? It occurs to me that there are several ways to do this, and a discussion might prove educational and fun. The person runs a PC program, creating a PC file. This file must go to the iSeries once a week, and then be processed by a CLP program/ Ideas? Suggestions? Fantastic solutions? -- ----------------------------- Booth Martin www.martinvt.com ----------------------------- -- This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
