Simon - Thanks, I've never come across the word solidus before. Good to
know.

Vern - Also good to know. I've always sort of wished that every system
would work using either character, or at least that there was consistency
between systems. Obviously this is a bit of a pipe dream given the
special meaning of "\" in common Unix shells and "/" in the Windows shell.

Just out of curiosity, I wanted to check if a path had to use the same
separator throughout. It would seem that

wrklnk '\dir1/dir2\*'

is allowed. This leads me to wonder - is there a way to escape special
characters in those paths?

If you REALLY want to be pedantic:

   / is a solidus
   \ is a reverse-solidus

Seriously, an interesting point here is that the iSeries recognizes
both as valid. So you can use either

wrklnk '/*'

or

wrklnk '\*'

to open to the contents of the root. The IFS is officially Unix-ish -
you will see only forward slashes in the header of the wrklnk screen.
