1. Count on the files taking much more dasd - the minimum size every single file takes is greatly increased, so even though you may think of adding an extra 10% or so, I have always found it to be much more. Same for all other objects. 2. I usually go for the recompile just to know I have everything (right source, new v5 objects). There is risk either way. I assume there is big system test once restored/converted or compiled.
3. Latest cume and groups (hiper, db, backup&recovery) before restore

I did some like this at V5R1 a few years ago. Also Advanced 36 (436-200 & 400's) to V5R1 or 2. Get all your system values, users created with however you handle groups and autl, etc, all set before restoring as Paul said.

Check the IBM site for any specific PTF's needed to restore old files. These are not "always" in cume and V5R4 is relatively new.

Subject: A very late conversion.. V3R2 to V5R4

I think the title says it all. The customer
is coming from a 9402-200 running cisc and
I am getting them a 520.

I "think" the data will be fine....

The programs are all in RPGIII and I believe
that they have ALL the source code on site.

I have not seen ANY books or articles on making
this big a jump at one time.

I would assume I can restore my data libraries.
I can also restore all program libraries.
I will let the system autoconfig all workstations.
I will manually enter all new user profiles.(10 users)

I assume that strobjcvn will make the leap from
cisc to risc.

I will attempt the STROBJCVN "before" I consider
doing a recompile of all programs.

Anybody done one of these lately ???
