Are you familiar with Jetty ? We are working with out main application
vendor and their ecommerce package. Originally it was in a partition on the
iSeries and we had do install the Java stuff and Jetty for it to work. Well
the login time for anyone using the website was 30 seconds. They vendor said
it was loading a bunch of stuff at first and once that was done and the user
was in, it would be faster and that seemed to be more or less true. The
vendor said there wasn't enough memory on the iSeries and it would be
cheaper to install a Wintel server and load that thing up with memory and it
would solve that problem. Well we tried that with the same result... 30
second log time, etc.

Is Jetty the problem here ? It does not load as a service under Windows
Server. You run a bat file and it sticks in a window...

Long-term, either platform will probably be around for a while.  We

Some experience with both, not a lot.  Since I'll probably be doing the
pilot apps, I have background in many languages but, for this purpose,
mainly HTML, .ASP, Java Script.   So, to me, I could go either way.  
I'd prefer to run the web app on the i5 but want to make a smart move
for the short and long terms.  To that end, I'd like to find out if our
Websphere environment on the i5 is up and running and set it up
correctly if not.  How can I tell?
