I've read a few references about SQL2XLS after doing a google search and gather 
that it evokes a JVM runtime since it uses Java POI classes.

If you'd like to send me a private email, I can send you a V5R1M0 *SAVF 
containing a command I wrote named SQL2STMF, which outputs results from SQL 
Select statements to stream files in ASCII text, CSV, and XML formats.

SQL2STMF uses only native methods (no Java), so it might be interesting to 
compare the performance.
