Character at a time screen I/0? -- MIDRANGE-L

I have a need to use character at a time screen I/O in an iSeries (i5 -will the name changes never end?) program. I understand that OfficeVision is able to do it so I believe it is possible. This needs to workwith 5250 terminals and emulators, so some javascript and a web browserwon't work here. Anyone know how?
