Trevor,

You guys are all so funny! You are griping about BAD GUI designs. While they
are prevalent, they are not how it SHOULD be done.. All of you must be
using
a POORly designed GUI.

A GUI should have RICH controls, and should be able to be navigated by the
keyboard as WELL as the mouse - not either/or.

I agree with this part.

If the
keyboard is the dominant function, then the mouse should be in the
non-dominant hand.

I disagree with this. You should not need to use the mouse at all, and
should be able to keep both hands on the keyboard at almost all times.

One of my pet peeves is GUI "designers" which fail to set a proper z-order
to controls so that tabbing is logical, and who fail to assign accelerator
keys or assign them wrong so they overlap menu functions. With a *properly*
designed GUI, I should be able to navigate *faster* with the keyboard then
with a pure green screen due to the acceletator keys to instantly jump to my
field or control of choice -- without using the mouse or needing a bunch of
tab strokes.

And by having keystroke sensitive logic instead of block mode, you can often
save the user even more keystrokes by predicting where they need to go next
based on context.
