Whe you select to start RAID what error do you get? You should be able to start RAID whether the drives are configured or not. There are only a few things that stop you from starting RAID:
1) No RAID card (DUH!)
2) Not enough drives that are not RADIed already or MIRROREd of the same size on the RAID card, 3) Not enough free space on the drives. If you have 4 drives and they are all part of the ASP then they need to be at aximum 75% full to allow for the space lost to RAID striping. 4) the drives are write protected (They have a letter 'H' in their name) In this case they need to be formatted first through the problem recovery menu.

I have a system that just arrived with the OS loaded. The RAID enabler
card is installed. They did not RAID-5 the 4 drives and I want to
perform this. I IPL'd to DST but still could not start the RAID-5 set
cause all the drive are configured. Do I have to remove the drives from
the ASP then build the RAID as I add them back? I though you could
build a RAID-5 set with configured drives when IPL'd to DST.
