You generally don't make major mistakes in concepts, so this seems a little 
confusing. If it is a M-F LF, why not simply work against the various 
underlying PFs? (It's been a long time -- can a M-F LF be defined over a single 
PF?)

It almost seems as if you have a program-described file with multiple record 
types. I can imagine that getting pretty ugly.
