Start with a CLP and issue an ovrprtf share(*yes) for the file you want to share. You will have to make program a,b, and c all use the same print file. QSYSPRT with "O" specs works but you cannot have multiple externally defined print files go to the same spool file. Now you can put all of your record formats from the three print files in one print file and modify the program to use the same print file but only the record formats they need. Just ignore the compile issues about unused record formats, while in the externally described print file, the unused formats will not be brought into the program unless referenced. WARNING: you have to watch record format names as well as variable names that are of different definitions. 1. O specs - simple but you may already have print files and need the feature of an externally described print file. 2. combining 3 externally described print files in to one massive print file. I want to have multiple programs in one job stream print to the same spool file. Each program has its own prtf. Each prtf has different records/layouts. More or less, I have a report program that calls separate programs for the first page(s) and last page(s) of the needed report. The report program itself provides the detail for the middle pages. I am pretty sure I have to use ovrprtf, but I am unsure of where to place them and with what parms. PgmA calls PgmB. PgmB uses PrtfB and prints to spool file. Control returns to PgmA. PgmA uses PrtfA and prints to spool file. PgmA calls PgmC. PgmC uses PrtfC and prints to spool file. Control returns to PgmA. PgmA ends.
