Yes.

The local user would call program A.  Program A would open a virtual 
terminal session with the desired application B and receive the related 
5250 data stream.  Program A would interrogate the data stream and 
determine if this is the "entry" panel -- if so feed in the appropriate 
data and send the data stream back to B; if not the "entry" panel then 
program A simply writes the data stream (presumeably the "change" panel) 
to the local device using a *USRDFN data stream, waits for data to be 
entered, and then sends the data stream to program B.  In either case now 
wait for the next panel/data stream from B and loop. 

There's a 'bit more' to it but that's the essence of the program using the 
Virtual Terminal APIs.  And yes I have written such an application in the 
distant past (RPG/400).

I thought about the virtual terminal APIs, but the original post
mentioned "and then have the user take 
over control" so I assume it would start automated, but then get handed
off to a real human. Can I transfer a virtual terminal to a real one?
