I take it that is a yes. I tend to forget that the optical drives are really just part of the IFS. So there should be no reason why we couldn't write directly to the DVD. However I doubt that the concerns I mentioned in my original post are really valid. We should be OK using SAV/RST. If we ever go onto other hardware, we'll still have convert the tapes/DVDs/Whatever to something that can be read by the new hardware. Our biggest concern right now is the lifespan of the 3490.
