And, I'm sure Jon Paris would love to see PL/I back on the AS/400, uh, iSeries....I mean i5 (sorry Trevor :) ..(now, I need to run and hide from Jon...:)

Trevor,
I've never used it, but I thought that PL/I, like Algol, was supposed to
be a hybrid of Cobol and Fortran. Someone else on the list would
probably have a better idea if that's true or not. If so, though,
wouldn't the conversion to PL/I be a better option than to Cobol?
Years ago I had an issue with a Cobol '74 compiler on a S/34 after
moving from a S/3 which had a '68 compiler. Anyway, even though it
wasn't supported, our SE (remember those guys?) was able to get a '68
compiler from Rochester for our /34. Was Fortran *ever* supported on
the AS/400 (and I use the term deliberately)? If so, might there be an
old (unsupported) compiler for Fortran? But, then, it would have
probably been for the CISC boxes.
