I'm running an 810 at V5R2 and looking to go to V5R3. I know on my
box that there is a 'restriction' that all LPARS must be +/- one
release of the primary partition. My question is if this is still
a 'restriction' on the new i5 boxes, in particular the i550?

The i550 has a minimum OS requirement of i5/OS V5R3, so BEFORE you convert
to the i5, get the 810 partition that you are going to run up to V5R3. If
there is significant SQL activity on that partition pay attention to the
Memo to Users and the SQL performance recommendations. There should not
be any other issue with V5R3. Make sure to put up all the latest
Cumulative Fix and Group PTFs on prior to your migration to the i550.

The i550 can only run V5R3 and V5R4 at this time, so there is not the type
of restriction you are referring to there. When the next version/release
of i5/OS comes out, you should still be able to run V5R3, V5R4, and VxRx
as there is no "primary" partition on the i5 anymore.
