Sorry, I missed the start of this thread so somebody may have suggested this already, but have you done a WRKDSKSTS and then F11 to see if anything says "Degraded"? This could indicate a cache battery failure on your disk controller. Sometimes this catches people off guard after an IPL, especially an unexpected IPL.
