I have to report on selected recs in a file and the file contains the dates of them in yyyymmdd format and the only records I want to select are in a range of yesterday after 3P to today up until 8A.

You can't get "3pm" and "8am" from a yyyymmdd field. Do you have a time field you can query on as well?

Will this code do that? I thought I'd use query but I'm not sure what would be best.

The code that I posted (as well as Vern's) only deals with dates, not times, and doesn't query anything, it only calculates dates. If you need help with creating a query, I suggest starting a new thread and asking for help as a separate issue from this one.
