I see what you are saying.  And that if you didn't have the cross library 
reference issue you'd have this working.  Granted, some people look at 
cross library views (or logical files) as the devils spawn, but I do feel 
that sometimes there's a valid business reason.

If you don't do the RUNSQLSTM ... DFTRDBCOL(...) but instead do 
CHGCURLIB to the library you are building the new table
RUNSQLSTM
will that work?
