> IBM never marketed it in any way. No argument on that one! > In the initial days when there were many tiers of interactive > CPW, the 100% interactive machines were sometimes four times > the cost of the zero CPW version. Nowadays, there are only > two versions: with and without. Which is actually a part of the problem. EntEd for a 570 is priced to accommodate allowing thousands of CPW of interactive while I at most need just a few hundred. EntEd for the 570 costs $300K on our dual-core main system with 6300 CPWs; it costs $300K on our5 single-core (3300 CPW) DR system. It's a heavy price to pay. Sure, the pricing is simplified, but it's also geared against the customer. > At least in this instance IBM has been clearly stating for YEARS that you need to get off the 5250. We're a JDE shop. We're limited to deploying solutions that will be supported by JDPeopOracle. There is a version of JDE that supports browser-based access, however, the upgrade process to that version is not something we can do easily. It is happening, but it is a slow and costly process for us to reconcile our customizations & business process against what's in the new release. And unfortunately, I'm not even sure if that version eliminates the need for intereactive (IIRC it uses the Seagull tool set).
