That will happen if the logical is copied before the physical. But, if the physical exists in the TOLIB of the logical, it doesn't matter if the target (TOLIB) library is in the library list or not. I just did one of those (PF then LF) not 30 minutes ago.

I have always had problems with CRTDUPOBJ when copying logicals from one
library to another. I always use SAVOBJ and RSTOBJ. Invariably with
only the target library in my library list and the physical in both
source and target when I do a CRTDUPOBJ the logical always points back
to the PF in source library. Regards, Guy

subject: CRTDUPOBJ on LF - how does it do this?

I was amazed when shown today that by simply doing: CRTDUPOBJ on an LF
to
the library I happen to copy my physical to, that it works.
How can this be? I would have bet that a restore was required, isn't
this
the way it used to be?

Is there anything wrong/different with creating a logical this way
rather
than creating it the old fashion way with CRTLF?

And finally, has this been available since day 1 on the AS/400, S/38??

Maybe the S/36 skewed my thinking on this.
I am trying to come to grips with all the man-hours I have on logicals
over
the years.
