RE: Trigger Question

I wonder also if commitment control is a factor here.  Do the triggered
updates need to be managed by the application's commit cycle?  I know that
we interrogate commit status in our external triggers, though we do not
currently use commitment control in our apps...

I don't where they got that recommendation. The Redbook SG24-6503 
entitled "Stored Procedures, Triggers and User Defined Functions on 
DB2 Universal Database for iSeries" has the following statement in 
the the Recommendations section of the External Triggers chapter 
(page 405 on the page, 423 in the PDF):

>You may need to have your trigger programs run asynchronously, for
