"Second, how do you like it vs IBM's DASD?" If your looking at EMC then your in the DMX line which is really pricey. IBMs DS6000 is way more affordable. I think there were some problems at the initial release but I think the microcode is running better now. We loked at getting a shared solution for Mainframe, iSeries, and Opensystems. The only reason we didn't go with DS6000 was lack of support for IDE drives. They only use 'High End' drives. Obviously, that's what you want for Mainframe, iSeries, and some Open Systems but the larger portion of our storage requirements are on Open Systems that doesn't require that type of storage. I thought that EMC had a nice suite of software to monitor and configure the SAN but you pay a higher premium to have it to be included. I think IBM charge additional for it. "- Faster tape drive, like an IBM 3581 - Might reduce my current window for backups in half; does nothing for reorg window " I had a 3570 and upgraded to a 3581 direct attached. My Full system saves went from three and a half hours to an hour and twenty minutes. m.
