I use OpenOffice.org on FreeBSD, Linux and Windows. I don't know if it works on the iSeries (in a Linux partition) but you may be able to make it work.

However, I haven't tried to deploy it company-wide, so you'll have to be your own guinea pig in that respect. I've found two stumbling blocks:

a) OpenOffice isn't 100% compatible with Microsoft Office, so when we get documents from customers that are in MS Office format (which we do, CONSTANTLY) they don't look exactly the same. They're usually pretty close, and usually readable, but the formatting isn't exactly the same and this sometimes causes problems.

b) All of our users are already familiar with MS Office. New employees are familiar with MS Office from previous jobs or from home, and usually complain when they're not given MS Office.

I don't know if those would be problems in your shop. OpenOffice.org gets better with every release, so it's definitely getting closer and closer to being a full replacement.

The other problem (which may or may not matter to you) is IBM. They try to ram Windows down your throat, whether you like it or not, for the iSeries. I'm talking about:

a) Web interfaces that are only compatbile with internet exploder
b) iSeries Navigator (though, I understand that they're are solutions to
     that, now.)
c) WDSC

I'm trying find information relating to a successful replacement of a large Microsoft Office infrastructure with an Open Source office solution. Maybe one that runs on Linux in an iSeries (????) or Linux on an xSeries along with PC based clients or maybe even Linux based clients! Wow, wouldn't that be interesting, no Windows desktops or servers or M$ software... Yikes, will I be struck by lighting for even thinking such a thought?
