Jim, If you use READ, then try using an OVRDBF prior to calling the program and specify a value for the NBRRCDS parameter, where: NBRRCDS = 32000 / physical-file-record-length (rounded down). and see if that improves things. I assumed an ODP size of 32K, but it may be 64K or higher, but 32K works pretty well. Rory p.s. BLOCK(*NO) would never help, because it turns of blocking, which is not what you want. Default blocking is normally good enough, but you can tweak it, as above.
