That's (obviously) what I first thought and raised 9 kinds of h@!! with the
rest of the department to being careful while inserting tapes.  This has
been re-occurring long enough to the point I don't think its operator
carelessness anymore.  But, I'm not the one putting the tapes in either
<grin>.  When IBM uses the shotgun approach to force a hardware upgrade, I'm
lobbying my boss to get rid of the thing!

Buzz,
I used a 3570 for five years here at ECHO.  More than once, I inadvertently
moved the write protect tab while handling a cartridge and didn't realize it
until our backups failed.  Just wanted point it out that it's not that hard
to move the tab.

Fortunately, we bought a 3581 when we upgraded to an i5 in the Spring.  They
both rock!
