"Assuming" you use different volume id's for every tape I find this quite 
useful
     PRTERRLOG TYPE(*VOLSTAT) +
               VOLTYPE(3590) +
               VOLSTAT(*DLT)
VOLSTAT(*DLT) will delete existing stats.  You might want to try it 
without that option set to that until you get more comfortable with the 
command.
