Yes, although it is a relatively risky operation. The gist of it is, you can run STRQMQRY with an appropriate UNION of the existing contents and whatever is being added. The output from STRQMQRY can be *OUTFILE - and here's the scary part - it can be the file you are reading in the SELECT. In toher words, you can replace the contents of a file with STRQMQRY in place - no confirmation appears, etc.

I do this often to eliminate duplicate records. E.g., you could put

select distinct * from somefile

into a QMQRY. Then run

strqmqry thisqry output(*outfile) outfile(somefile) outmbr(*first *replace)

Note that "somefile" is the same file in both the select and in the outfile.

WARNING: We are professionals - don't try this at home!
