For example, I found that communication line clog up happened only 1/10 of the time during the day, so a faster communication line would be wasted 90% of the time. I showed how we were getting 7-1 performance from Cache, and argued that more memory for cache would significantly improve performance. We looked into alternatives for IBM memory pricing, and went with EMC because we liked their guarantees. The result of this was that by adding a modicum of additional memory, our performance dramatically improved.
