Joe,

When you say:

"Here's the question: if I copy a file onto the IFS, then add it to an
image catalog, can I delete it from the IFS before applying the image?
I don't have a ton of extra space, so this would allow me to add a lot
more images to the catalog before running the thing."

Are you talking about the downloaded PTF or a copy from the CD image?

If I understand Rob's post, you only need ONE copy of the file, regardless of where it is hanging out, when you add them to the image catalog. I am not sure about the CD images, since they have to be copied somewhere in the IFS to be accessible to the catalog but the TOFILE(*FROMFILE) I think just points the catalog entry to the file. So you shouldn't delete it because it is the only copy you have (Rob can confirm this).

Once you have this figured out (or if someone has experience with this already) then post it here. I'll use what Rob posted, plus whatever you discover on copying the CD image to the catalog, and pull together an FAQ. I'll be doing one of these again in a couple of weeks and it would make for a handy reference.

Pete
