I've been doing some research into using HTML for
stylized printing, including graphics, absolute
positionsing, variable length sub-reports within
reports, and page-break handling.  The results have
been encouraging.  For example, the following link
points to template for a student transcript, designed
for 8.5" X 11" portrait printing:
