Consider getting the IBM Education Discount Card.

Each class can be a bit expensive, and management may have a budget for how many classes to send you to ... well if the budget will extend to sending you to several weeks of classes, then instead of getting 3-4 weeks worth, at the same price you can get almost unlimited IBM education, so long as you take it all within one year. The card also applies to the IBM technical conferences, which are like baby-COMMONs.

There are some 3rd party places that offer IBM certified education, and some of them also accept the IBM Education Discount card, so it pays to ask which do and which do not.

The IBM Education web site, which I have not used in eons, had a road map of what classes you ought to take based on your situation.
* moving from mainframe to iSeries
* moving from COBOL to RPG
* moving from Microsoft to IBM
* need to learn fundamentals of 400 security
* your duties mainly in _____ area
* etc.

This includes path of take this class then that class.

There is one class that is an introduction to the many different programming languages and tools found on the 400, such as CL, Query, SQL, many more, so you see how they fit together in making menus, screens, printer files, physical and logical files, and so forth, then from there you go to class for getting good at specific languages.

Hopefully someone here will give you link to where that stuff now is

The audio tapes are great pricing if several people at your company need the same kind of education. They come with great illustrations, and step you through exercises, using sign ons to special libraries for the exercises, so you not mess with your production data when doing the exercises, and each person can learn at their own pace.

Having found MIDRANGE_L be sure to visit www.midrange.com and see other lists hosted, and the archives of the various lists, which may be especially helpful as you begin your education and want to supplement paths to asking questions with whether the archives already hold good relevant answers.

I'm fortunate based on what I hear from others. I am moving from the
VSE/COBOL world to the Iseries/RPG world and mgmt has agreed to send me
to school to learn some Iseries Admin and RPG.

Anyone have suggestions for some quality training?
