Jerry, What was involved in locking it down? Does the server have to use the iSeries user IDs and passwords? We're presently using a third party, java based emulation software package that uses SSL, for internet access to our iSeries. The package runs on a windows server and users must sign on to the server with a server user ID and password before they get a iSeries sign on screen. Our iSeries really isn't open to the internet, we just opened ports on our firewall for the server. We paid four figures for this package (CTCBridge) about 5 years ago and it's critical our operations. It allows our distributors who are all over the country access to our iSeries and the package has been very stable. We do pay annual maintenance so IAFW could save us some money. There were growing pains with this package too. Like the latest version of Sun Java broke the tab key. So the vendor has a fix for that. Also, when we installed it 5 years ago, it was configured for installable applets which Microsoft JVM supported. Now, new PCs have Sun Java which don't allow installable applets so we had to configure the server to not install applets, just serve them. I also had to tweak a lot of the printing. I configured IAFW last weekend. Had it running and completely locked down on two systems in a total of 13 hours (OTJ training). I set it up so that each user has access to one 5250 session and nothing else. It does a fairly good job of providing browser based 5250 but still has some 'issues'. The biggest one is the display formatting. Even when using the 'fixed width font' setting there are still some character alignment issues (not pretty), and things that are cursor sensitive in true 5250 are still unavailable (such as mouse click dds defined activities). I hope these will issues will be resolved as the product evolves, and as time goes by I get to play with it more to see if I can resolve or create work-arounds to the growing pains associated with IAFW.
